Amateurs Win NorCal Again!
By Sandi Zrnic WGANC Northern Team Director

The 13th Annual Northern California Women’s Cup (NorCal) Matches were held on Monday, August 31, 2009, at Stockton Country Club. Six team members from WGANC were chosen based on their accumulated points during the previous year.   PWGA sent six players, who qualified for their spot on the team, to round out the amateur team to 12 players.  The opponents were 12 northern California PGA teaching professionals.

There were six matches played as two-person teams. The format was best ball of partners on holes 1-9; a scramble using a minimum of two tee shots for each team member on holes 10-18; and a Chapman format on holes 19-27. All matches were played at scratch.  Each match was worth one point and one point was earned for the most holes won in each match.  There was a total of four points awarded for each of the six matches for a total of 24 points awarded for the tournament. There were prizes for closest to the flag as well as for birdies.

The amateurs were once again victorious, with WGANC’s team earning a total of 10 points. The WGANC team included Lynne Cowan, Lyn Nelson, Sandy Woodruff, Juvy Timan, Suzanne Kim and Shannon Clark.
