Junior Girls Golf Program
WGANC’s vision is to realize the potential of women’s amateur golf in Northern California through programs which enhance their golfing experience, from junior through championship opportunities.
One of WGANC’s objectives is to promote and financially support Junior Girls’ golf programs in Northern California. Golf helps build integrity, sportsmanship, confidence and teamwork, all valuable assets in a young girl’s life.
Each year WGANC donates thirty cents from each member’s dues to the Junior Girls’ Transportation Fund. The purpose of the fund is to defray the travel costs for the girls from Northern California who qualify for the USGA Girls’ Junior Championship. This year the tournament will be held in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Donated funds come from private golf courses through WGANC and public golf courses through PWGA. The annual donation varies, but it is about $10,000 per year. The costs depend on air fare and caddies’ fees at the host club as well as how many girls qualify. No girl is turned away. Donated funds are used for Northern California girls only. Southern California has its own program. This year there will be qualifying rounds at Mira Vista on June 14 and Merced on June 21.
These girls are the future of women’s golf and we need to encourage them to play the greatest game ever invented and support them in any way that we can.
